Canada takes big step towards World Cup with win vs. U.S.

  • Canada 2 (Larin 7’, Adekugbe 90’+5’), United States 0
  • Canadians unbeaten in 10 games, remain in 1st place
  • Larin moves past De Rosario as Canada’s all-time scorer

Canada didn’t exactly drop the hammer on the United States, but the Americans were left reeling after their latest encounter with the Canadians in what is quickly becoming one of the best rivalries in Concacaf.

Cyle Larin capped off a brilliant counter-attacking move in the opening minutes, as Canada earned a hugely important 2-0 win over the United States on a frigid Sunday afternoon at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field in the final round of Concacaf World Cup qualifying. Sam Adekugbe sealed the victory for the Canadians with a goal deep into injury time.

Larin became the all-time top scorer for Canada, who is now unbeaten in 10 games (6-0-4) in the final round of the qualifiers, has won five matches in a row, and remains atop the Concacaf table.
