Chris Armas fired as Toronto FC coach

Less than 24 hours after suffering its worst loss in franchise history, Toronto FC cut ties with coach Chris Armas.

The MLS club announced on Sunday afternoon that it had fired Armas, effective immediately. This move means the Armas era at TFC lasted only 15 games (11 in MLS, four in the Concacaf Champions league). The only coach in team history who had a shorter spell in charge was Nick Dasovic (10 games).

General manager Ali Curtis confirmed that no other members of the coaching staff under Armas were fired, and that assistant coach Javier Perez will take charge of the team for its next game on July 7 away to the New England Revolution. Curtis also said the plan is to appoint an interim coach for the time being and then see how that plays out before making a decision on a full-time replacement for Armas.
