Canada shut out by U.S. in international friendly

  • Canada 0, United States 3 (Coffey 17’, Hutton 36’; Ryan 89')
  • Canadians haven’t won on American soil since Nov. 11, 2000
  • Canada now 6-2-1 since Casey Stoney took over this year

Set pieces were the ruination of the Canadian women’s team in the latest chapter of its rivalry vs. the United States.

Canada never recovered after conceding a pair of first-half goals off dead ball situations en route to suffering a humbling 3-0 loss to the U.S. in Wednesday’s international friendly at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.

Wednesday’s result means Canada sports a 6-2-1 record since coach Casey Stoney was hired in January. Canada’s other loss under Stoney came in a 1-0 home loss to Argentina in April.

The next international window is in late October. As of yet, Canada doesn’t have any games scheduled, so Stoney has plenty of time to reflect on this disappointing performance in which her team was completely dominated as she looks ahead to next year when the Concacaf qualifiers kick off for the 2027 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
