Canada settles for draw at Concacaf Gold Cup
- Canada 1 (Saliba 9’), Curaçao 1 (Antonisse 94’+4’)
- Marsch served 2nd game of his two-match suspension
- Saliba scored 2nd goal in as many matches at Gold Cup
The Canadian men’s team’s hopes of advancing to the knockout round at the Concacaf Gold Cup have been put on hold for now.
After rampaging to an easy win in its tournament opener, Canada was held to a disappointing 1-1 draw vs. Curaçao on Saturday at Houston’s Shell Energy Stadium. Nathan Saliba scored in the first half for Canada before it conceded the equalizer deep into injury time.
With a victory on Saturday, Les Rouges could have clinched a spot in the quarter-finals with one game to spare in the group stage. As it stands, the Canadians will now have to wait until their Group B finale vs. El Salvador in Houston on June 24 in order to book their spot in the knockout round.
Canada sits atop Group B with four points, ahead of Honduras (three points), Curaçao (two points), El Salvador (one point).
