Canadians set to feature prominently in NWSL playoffs

When the 2022 National Women’s Soccer League playoffs kick off on Sunday, members of the Canadian national team will be front and centre.

All six clubs that have qualified for the playoffs have at least one player from Canada’s women’s team on their roster, which means the NWSL Championship final scheduled for Oct. 29 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. will be an all-Canadian affair. Sunday’s first round matches sees the Houston Dash host the Kansas City Current and the Chicago Red Stars visiting San Diego Wave FC.

When Kansas City makes its playoff debut this weekend it’ll do so without the services of Desiree Scott, a 35-year-old from Winnipeg. Scott, who has 184 caps for Canada, is suspended for the game after picking up a red card in the Current’s regular season finale. Thus, she’ll miss the chance to go up against Houston’s trio of Canadians in Sophie Schmidt, Allysha Chapman and Nichelle Prince.
