Canada's Steven Vitória doesn't look back at what could've been

What a long strange trip it's been for Steven Vitória.

Once considered somewhat of a pariah by the Canadian soccer community, the veteran centre-back now finds himself an integral part of Canada’s defence as the men’s team prepares to resume its World Cup qualifying campaign.

Coach John Herdman has assembled a 24-man squad for a pair of crucial Concacaf matches this month as it looks to move one step closer towards booking a spot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. There are players in this Canadian camp with more international experience than Vitória. But at 34, Vitória is the elder-statesman of a Canadian side that is about to do battle with Aruba on Saturday and Suriname next Tuesday.
