TFC 2 announced on Wednesday it has sold midfielder Andrei Dumitru to FC Botoșani of Liga I, Romania’s top division.

Dumitru, 18, is the first outbound permanent transfer in the history of the MLS NEXT Pro club. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Andrei has been a part of our club for many years and we’re excited to help support him in finding the next step in his professional career. He has been an exemplary model of a young professional throughout his time with both the Toronto FC academy and TFC 2,” Toronto FC technical director Sean Rubio said in a media release.

Dumitru started playing soccer when he was only four years old, introduced to the sport by his father Florin who grew up playing it in his native Romania. Dumitru was born in Milton, Ont., but grew up in the Greater Toronto Area, turning out for local clubs before eventually joining TFC’s youth academy in 2016 when he was nine years old.
