TFC's Richie Laryea rebounds from 'here we go again' injury

TFC's Richie Laryea rebounds from 'here we go again' injury

It’s been a tough row to hoe for Richie Laryea ever since he came back to Toronto FC.

But the Canadian international looks to have finally put his injury woes behind him and appears to be his old self.

Laryea, 30, began his third tenure with TFC prior to the 2024 MLS season following a transfer move from Nottingham Forest when he signed a DP deal through 2026 with an option for 2027. Much was expected of him upon his return to MLS – the hope was that he would help the Reds rebound from a disastrous 2023 season. But it didn't work out that way.

The speedy wingback had surgery after suffering a hamstring injury in the opening match of the regular season on Feb. 25 after only 70 minutes and was sidelined until June. When Laryea returned, he was unable to get into a steady rhythm to help the Reds qualify for the playoffs. He ended up playing in 17 games in all competitions for Toronto in 2024, with just one goal and three assists.
