August 5, 2025: Reds to land Mihailovic via transfer

Sources confirmed to TFC Republic that Toronto FC is very close to pulling off a deal that would see it secure attacking midfielder Djordje Mihailovic via transfer from the Colorado Rapids in what can only be described as an MLS blockbuster move. News of the deal was broken by Tom Bogert, who reported that TFC will pay Colorado $8 million US, plus another $1 million in add-ons. The Rapids will retain a future sell-on clause as part of the transaction with TFC.

Quick analysis: GM Jason Hernandez knew he had to come up with something big to improve Toronto FC's roster during the MLS secondary transfer window, which runs until Aug. 21.

TFC (5-13-6) currently sits 12th in the Eastern Conference with 10 games left in the regular season and look poised to miss the playoffs for a fifth straight year. One of the reasons why the Reds are in this situation is because of a limp attack that ranks fifth-worst in the league with 25 goals in 24 games.
