Who'll be the next TFC 2 player to make jump to Toronto FC?
Toronto FC beat writer James Grossi discusses which young prospects could move up to the senior team next season.
TFC 2 were one of five teams vying for the last two MLS NEXT Pro playoff berths in the Eastern Conference in October going into the final day of the regular season.
A win by away to New York Red Bulls 2, coached by Michael Bradley, would have secured Toronto its second playoff berth in club history. Instead, it came up short in a 2-1 loss. As a result, TFC 2 (10-12-6) finished ninth in the East, one spot and one point behind Carolina Core FC who clinched the last post-season berth.
“It's difficult that we miss it by one point, but then when you look at the season, how many of those one points did we pass up, you know? It's a good lesson for our players: throughout the course of the year you've got to take the points you're supposed to take,” coach Gianni Cimini said.
Toronto-based journalist James Grossi is the foremost authority on TFC 2, having covered the team in an in-depth fashion for several years. In this one-on-one interview with TFC Republic, Grossi recaps the 2025 campaign for TFC 2, evaluates how Cimini did in his fourth year in charge, looks at which players could move up to the senior team next season, and much more.
