Raheem Edwards apologizes to Toronto FC fans after latest loss
"I feel sorry for the fans. I just want to apologize to them because [the] first half was unacceptable," Edwards said after Saturday's loss in Vancouver.
VANCOUVER – There weren't any silver linings for Toronto FC in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place.
Sometimes coach Robin Fraser and the players can point to a few positives even in defeat. But TFC's latest loss in this version of the Canadian derby left a sour taste in the team's mouth.
Toronto conceded three set piece goals in the first half and then failed to muster any kind of substantive response in the final 45 minutes en route to falling to its second consecutive loss to begin the 2026 MLS regular season.
Second-half substitute Raheem Edwards wasn't at a loss for words in the post-match press conference when asked by TFC Republic to characterize his team's performance on the night.
"Before I get to that answer, I just want to say a shout out to the traveling supporters [who] made a long trip from Toronto to Vancouver. Honestly, I feel embarrassed to be up here and to talk to you guys. I feel sorry for the fans. I just want to apologize to them because [the] first half was unacceptable. More of the same thing again in terms of just shooting ourselves in the foot, giving up easy goals. It's a little too easy," Edwards said.
