One of the best rivalries in MLS will be renewed this week when Toronto FC faces CF Montreal.

It's the first MLS game for both teams since the third week of May when the league went on hiatus due to the FIFA World Cup. While Toronto earned a 3-1 win over the CPL's Halifax Wanderers in a friendly last week, Montreal played a pair of competitive matches earlier this month, besting Vancouver FC in the two-legged quarter-finals of the Canadian Championship.

"I've been here for a number of years – two years now, and five years prior to that. I know what this rivalry is like, and there seems to be a true dislike between people from [the] respective cities, and the games are often hotly contested. ... It's not a contrived rivalry," TFC coach Robin Fraser said.

Here’s what you need to know about Thursday's game between Toronto and Montreal at Stade Saputo (7:30 p.m. ET/TSN & Apple TV).

Note: I will be at Stade Saputo in Montreal to cover this game, so be sure to visit TFC Republic in order to check out our special on-site coverage.
