NORTH YORK, ONT. – AFC Toronto was seconds away from beating Vancouver Rise FC, but it couldn’t slam the door shut.

The first-ever meeting between the Northern Super League rivals ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw on a sunny Mother’s Day afternoon before an announced crowd of 2,615 at York Lions Stadium.

A highlight-reel goal from substitute Aoi Kizaki in the dying minutes of regulation time looked to have secured the win for Toronto (1-2-1), but a goal by Vancouver deep into injury time spoiled the party for the hosts.

The draw was the only second in the NSL this season. Montreal Roses FC and Halifax Tides FC battled to a 0-0 stalemate on Saturday in Laval, Que.
