Toronto FC suffers 3rd consecutive defeat in MLS
TFC head into the World Cup break on a negative note following Saturday night’s road loss to the Chicago Fire.
- Toronto FC 1 (Sargent 34’), Chicago Fire 2 (Lod 22’; Gutman 65’)
- TFC winless in 9 games in all competitions; last win on April 4
- Sargent returned from injury to score his 3rd goal of season
- Coello recorded an assist in his 100th appearance for the Reds
MLS will go on hiatus after this weekend until mid-July due to this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
The extended break comes at the perfect time for Toronto FC who suffered a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field on Saturday in the second match of its six-game road swing.
Josh Sargent scored for Toronto (3-6-5) who dropped from 11th to 12th in the Eastern Conference and is now winless in nine games across all competitions with its last victory coming on April 4.
“I thought the performance was really quite good. They're a good team; lots of talented players, they really hurt you in moments where they can get behind you. And I thought by and large we did pretty well, not only containing them, but creating quite a few chances, especially in the first half," coach Robin Fraser told reporters after the loss.
