Toronto FC prospect Lazar Stefanovic set to lead Canada at FIFA U-17 World Cup

If all goes well at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, the Canadian soccer community at large will learn what Toronto FC already knows about Lazar Stefanovic.

Stefanovic is one of the country’s brightest young prospects. Having signed with TFC 2 this year after coming up through the youth academy, the young centre back impressed in MLS NEXT Pro this season and showed why the Reds are so high on him to eventually make the jump to the senior team.

But for now, Stefanovic is ready to show the rest of country what all the fuss is about. Last week, he was named to Canada’s 21-man roster for the World Cup scheduled for Nov. 10 to Dec. 2. Stefanovic will serve as co-captain of the Canadian team alongside midfielder Alessandro Biello, the son of senior team coach Mauro Biello.
