Ali Curtis proud of MLS NEXT Pro's developmental success

From little acorns do mighty oaks grow. That's the story of MLS NEXT Pro.

Launched in 2022, Major League Soccer's affiliate league started with 21 teams before growing to 29 teams this year – 27 reserve sides of MLS clubs (including TFC 2) and two independent clubs. And the league is still growing as it's on schedule to add six more teams by 2027.

First and foremost, MLS NEXT Pro is a developmental league, a place where youth academy products and young players can cut their teeth and enhance their skills in hopes of landing a first-team contract with an MLS club. Last month, MLS NEXT Pro announced it reached a special milestone: 200 MLS first-team signings since its formation three years ago.

Former Toronto FC general manager Ali Curtis serves as president of MLS NEXT Pro and executive vice president of MLS Sporting Development. In his role as president, Curtis oversees the day-to-day aspects of MLS NEXT Pro's business and sporting operations, while helping to further the league's mission of developing top-tier players.

In this one-on-one interview with TFC Republic, Curtis talks about the 200 player first-team signings, the growth of MLS NEXT Pro, possible league expansion into Canada, his time at Toronto FC, and much more.
