TFC debut was a long time coming for William Yarbrough
The veteran goalkeeper looked solid replacing the injured Luka Gavran on Saturday, his first taste of action in two years.
TORONTO – If there’s anything that veteran goalkeeper William Yarbrough has learned over the past two MLS seasons it’s the value of being patient and trusting that your time will come.
For Yarbrough, the time finally came on Saturday when he had to replace injured starter Luka Gavran in the first half of Toronto FC’s eventual 2-1 win over CF Montreal at BMO Field.
Gavran has started and played every minute of all 29 games across all competitions for TFC in 2026, his first full season as a No. 1 goalkeeper after previously serving as Sean Johnson’s understudy for two and half years.
Gavran’s iron man streak ended in the 23rd minute of TFC’s victory in the latest edition of the 401 Derby. Making his 50th career appearance for the Reds, Gavran crashed to the ground under a challenge from Prince Owusu, suffering what coach Robin Fraser believes is a leg injury that isn’t too serious.
