Toronto FC vs. CF Montreal: 3 takeaways
TFC kept their playoff hopes alive with an amazing come-from-behind win in the latest edition of the 401 Derby.
If Toronto FC ends up making the playoffs, it can point to Saturday's 2-1 home win over CF Montreal as a critical turning point in its season.
Down a goal and with a loss seemingly on the cards, TFC scored a pair of goals deep into injury time through Lewis Morgan and Djordje Mihailovic to complete an improbable comeback.
While a defeat wouldn't have eliminated the Reds from playoff contention, realistically, it would have been a huge psychological blow from which they wouldn't have been able to recover. Instead, they managed to pick up three big points and move up two spots to 11th in the Eastern Conference.
"I feel like I talk so much about the resilience of the group and once again we see it, the effort down the stretch. ... I thought by and large that the group played really well and certainly at the end to show the kind of effort that they did and resilience to stay with it. Really proud of the group, so it's a great win but we know we have more to do," coach Robin Fraser said.
Here are my three major takeaways from Saturday's match.
