Canada falls short vs. Denmark in Toronto friendly
Canada conceded four goals in a game for the first time since the 2023 world Cup in Monday's loss to Denmark at BMO Field.
- Canada 3 (Pridham 10’’; Viens 49’; Smith 70’), Denmark 4 (Holdt 23’, 32’; Harder 27’; Thomsen 61’)
- Pridham scored 1st international goal in 9 caps for Canada
- Chapman earned her 100th cap in last national team appearance
- Canada off until next month’s Concacaf W Championship in Texas
TORONTO – Canadian women’s team coach Casey Stoney wanted her side to become more clinical in front of goal after last week’s stalemate against Denmark.
Stoney got her wish but she also saw her team concede far more goals than she would have liked in a 4-3 loss to Denmark in an international friendly on Thanksgiving before an announced crowd of 12,112 at BMO Field.
Delaney Baie Pridham, Evelyne Viens and Olivia Smith scored in a losing effort for Canada who conceded four goals in a game for the first time since a 4-0 loss to Australia in the group stage of the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
Bad giveaways, mistimed passes and defensive errors were the order of the day from Canada, No. 9 in the current FIFA rankings, who played from behind against 12th-ranked Denmark for most of the match, despite enjoying 62 per cent possession and a 16-10 edge in total shots.
