Despite another playoff failure, TFC have faith in Robin Fraser
GM Jason Hernandez was impressed with how Fraser walked into a tough situation at Toronto FC and handled things with aplomb.
There is very little job security in coaching, something that past custodians of Toronto FC have found out the hard way over the previous five years.
Since Greg Vanney’s departure at the end of the 2020 MLS campaign, TFC have gone through no less than six head coaches, with none of them lasting a full two seasons. Chris Armas (Vanney’s successor) and interim bench boss Terry Dunfield lasted only 15 games apiece, while Bob Bradley just managed to get past the year-and-a-half mark.
It’s not a surprise that the TFC coaching merry-go-round has coincided with a lack of results on the pitch. The Reds have endured five consecutive losing seasons (without a single playoff berth) in which they averaged 7.2 wins and have finished no higher than 11th in the Eastern Conference. The 2023 campaign was the worst of them all – Toronto set new franchise records for the fewest wins (four) and points (22) in a single season as it finished dead last in the league table.
In Robin Fraser’s first year in charge, Toronto posted a 6-14-14 record and collected 32 points as it finished 12th in the East in 2025. That’s actually worse than 2024 when TFC was 11th in the East with an 11-19-4 record and 37 points under John Herdman.
