Shelina Zadorsky headlines NSL contingent on Canadian roster
A record six players from the Northern Super League have been called up by Casey Stoney for next month's international window.
A quarter of Casey Stoney’s latest Canadian women’s team roster is made up of players from the Northern Super League, a sign of the upstart league’s growing influence on the sport in Canada.
Stoney on Tuesday announced her 24-player squad for the October FIFA international window which includes a record six players from the NSL, including veteran centre back Shelina Zadorsky who earlier this year joined AFC Toronto as a free agent after leaving West Ham United.
Canada will face Denmark in a pair of friendlies scheduled for Oct. 9 at Stade Saputo in Montreal and Oct. 12 at Toronto’s BMO Field.
Zadorsky, 33, has eight goals and four assists in 119 appearances for Canada, making her one of the most experienced players on the squad.
