TFC Tidbits: Jesse Marsch calls Richie Laryea an important catalyst for Canada

Welcome to TFC Tidbits, a special feature at TFC Republic that curates small bits and pieces of news about what's going on with Toronto FC.

Marsch: 'He brings a different kind of competitiveness'

To nobody's surprise, Toronto FC's Richie Laryea was named to the latest Canadian men's team that'll face Romania and Wales in a pair of international friendlies this month.

Laryea, 30, has one goal and six assists in 65 matches (52 starts) for Canada since earning his first cap in 2019 when John Herdman was at the helm of the program.

In particular, Laryea has flourished for the national team since Jesse Marsch took over the coaching reins last May. The TFC wingback has become one of Marsch’s most trusted players, having played in 17 of the 21 games that the American coach has overseen since his appointment, including appearances in all six matches at the 2024 Copa América.
