TFC's Malik Henry much more than just a speed merchant

Henry has shown well during the few chances he's been given this season, adding a touch of dynamism to Toronto FC's attack.

Malik Henry isn’t an MLS rookie, but he feels like one in his first full season with Toronto FC in 2026.

“I've actually had that thought that this is my actual rookie year because when I came in last year, the team wasn't in a really good spot. This feels like my first real year because it's a full team; this is my first real go at it with a solid foundation of a team in place,” Henry told TFC Republic.

Henry, a 23-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., played in a pair of games for the Reds while still a member of TFC 2 last summer before signing his first MLS contract on Aug. 9. On that same day, he came off the bench to set up Deandre Kerr's injury time equalizer in a 1-1 draw away to the Philadelphia Union. The young winger closed out the 2025 MLS campaign with nine total appearances (all off the bench), offering a glimpse of what he had to offer.

He finally made his first start for Toronto in February in the 2026 season opener away to FC Dallas and went on to feature in six other games as a substitute for 166 total minutes – he only played in 109 minutes last season.
