TFC newcomer Niklas Dorsch in MLS 'to achieve something'
Toronto FC has fallen on hard times in recent years, but that didn't scare off the German. If anything, it helped draw him to the club.
The stereotype about Germans being cold, humourless and ultra-serious clearly doesn’t apply to Niklas Dorsch.
The German midfielder was all smiles when he met the media for the first time on Wednesday since last month when he joined Toronto FC via a transfer from 1. FC Heidenheim of Germany’s second division and made his MLS debut in a 1-1 road draw vs. New York City FC.
Dorsch comfortably held court with local reporters, displaying his natural charm, warmth and wit, a stark contrast to the physical, uncompromising and unrelenting figure he routinely cuts on the pitch.
Toronto has been in short supply of those qualities, especially in central midfield, over the course of the previous five playoff-less seasons, which led GM Jason Hernandez to make such a strong push to land the former Bayern Munich youth academy graduate.
