Canada vs. Martinique at the Gold Cup: What you need to know

Fresh off a successful series of World Cup qualifiers, Canada now turns its attention to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, as it attempts to win the biennial competition for the first time in 21 years.

First up for the Canadians is a showdown with Martinique in their opening Group B game of the tournament.

Canada enters the Gold Cup on a six-game unbeaten run, having won all of its games this year by a combined score of 31-1, although it played mostly minnows and was never seriously tested. The competition will be a lot stiffer at the Gold Cup, and the loss of both Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David due to injuries is notable and will hamper the Canadian attack. Canada is also without starting goalkeeper Milan Borjan and veteran midfielder Atiba Hutchinson.

Here’s what you need to know about Sunday's game (6:30 p.m. ET) between Canada and Martinique at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, KS.
