TFC 2 season preview for 2026: What you need to know
TFC 2 kicks off its 2026 MLS NEXT Pro campaign this weekend after undergoing a big roster turnover in the off-season.
Oh, so close. That's the best way to describe the end of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro regular season for TFC 2.
TFC 2 were one of five teams vying for the last two playoff berths in the Eastern Conference last October going into the final day of the regular season. A win away to New York Red Bulls 2 would have secured Toronto a playoff berth. Instead, it came up short in a 2-1 loss.
As a result, TFC 2 (10-12-6) finished ninth in the East, one spot and one point behind Carolina Core FC who clinched the last post-season berth. Not since the 2022 campaign have the Reds qualified for the playoffs (that was also their only post-season appearance in franchise history).
That's in the past. In the club's immediate future is their 2026 season opener on Saturday away to Philadelphia Union 2, which will mark coach Gianni Cimini's fifth campaign in charge of the Young Reds
