AFC Toronto's Emma Regan 'couldn't say no' to NWSL transfer
In a 1-on-1 interview, Regan reflects on her time in the Northern Super League, what prompted her move to the NWSL, and more.
Emma Regan’s time with AFC Toronto was impactful, but brief.
Regan, a 25-year-old from B.C., signed with the club ahead of the Northern Super League's inaugural season in 2025 after playing in Denmark with HB Køge and hit the ground running as Toronto's captain.
She played every minute of every regular season match, helping the Canadian club win the Supporters' Shield and reach the NSL Final. She was also voted the league's midfielder of the year and was named to the NSL's Best XI.
But Regan won't be back in Toronto for the 2026 season as it was announced this week that she had been sold for an undisclosed transfer fee to the expansion Denver Summit of the National Women’s Soccer League.
The midfielder has signed a three-year deal with a mutual option for 2029 with Denver where she'll join Canadian teammates Janine Sonis and Megan Reid.
In this one-on-one interview with TFC Republic, Regan reflects on her time with AFC Toronto, what prompted this move to the NWSL, and more.
