With Toronto FC looking to bolster its attack after poor 2025 season, it should come as no surprise that it has tabled an $18 million US bid for Norwich City and U.S. international striker Josh Sargent.

Sargent fits the bill of the type of DP striker that Toronto needs: he's the right age (25) and has scored double-digit league goals in each of the past three seasons, netting 56 times overall for Norwich since joining the club in 2021. Before moving to the English Championship, he netted 11 goals in 83 games across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga. Sargent also has 29 caps for the U.S. senior side with five goals and an assist.

But Norwich doesn't appear too keen to let him go. Sargent refused to play in Norwich City's 5-1 FA Cup victory over Mansfield last Sunday, according to coach Philippe Clement.

“Josh sent me a message [on Saturday] evening saying he would not be available because of transfer things in his head,” Clement was quoted by the BBC. “This is obviously not something we want and will have consequences.

“It is something we need to speak about inside the club, but the club has made it really clear to Josh and his agent that he will not be leaving during this transfer window.”

Connor Southwell is the chief football reporter who covers Norwich City for Norwich Evening News. In this one-on-one interview with TFC Republic, Southwell discusses Sargent's tenure at Norwich City, how his situation is being viewed by the club's management and its fans, what the chances are that he'll be sold to Toronto FC, and much more.
