Ex-Toronto FC star Maurice Edu recalls early days of MLS club
In a 1-on-1 interview, Edu discusses his 2007 rookie year with TFC, dealing with Mo Johnston, his memories of the city and much more.

There were very few success stories for Toronto FC during its expansion MLS season in 2007. Maurice Edu was one of them.
Toronto finished bottom of the overall league table with a 6-17-7 record and famously suffered an 824-minute goal drought to obliterate the old league mark (557 minutes) established by Real Salt Lake in 2005. It also took TFC until their fifth match of the year to score their first ever goal.
But Edu, a native of California, was a rare bright spot for the Reds in that first MLS campaign. The young midfielder turned pro after his junior year at the University of Maryland and went on to be named the MLS rookie of the year following the 2007 season with Toronto after scoring four goals and tallying an assist in 25 league appearances.
