Is buying out Jozy Altidore the right thing to do for Toronto FC?

The veteran striker loves proving his critics wrong. TFC would be wise to take that into consideration as they decide whether or not to move forward with him.

Is buying out Jozy Altidore the right thing to do for Toronto FC?

What should Toronto FC do about Jozy Altidore?

That remains one of the big pressing questions facing TFC this off-season as they look to rebuild their roster after a disastrous 2021 MLS campaign that saw them fail to make the playoffs and finish second-from-bottom in the overall table.

Altidore, 32, made 16 league appearances this year (eight as a starter) and scored just four goals – in terms of offensive output, it was his second-worst season in seven years in Toronto. Altidore’s injury woes and lack of goals has led to a vocal portion of the fanbase and some media members calling upon TFC to ship him out, whether that’s via a trade, a transfer or buying him out of his contract – his current deal expires at the end of 2022.
