Canada vs. Morocco: What you need to know
Canada faces its toughest test to date at the World Cup in Saturday's round of 16 clash vs. the reigning African champions.
One team from Africa has already been dispatched. But can Canada make it two in a row?
The Canadian men's team defeated South Africa last Sunday in Los Angeles, earning a 1-0 win in its first ever knockout match at the FIFA World Cup. It was a tightly contested round of 32 matchup that was settled via Stephen Eustáquio's injury time goal.
Now the Canadians face an even tougher challenge in the form of Morocco, the current reigning African Cup of Nations holders, in the round of 16.
“We're excited for the moment. We wanted to get to a point in the tournament where we were playing against some big opponents, and Morocco is exactly that. When you talk about Morocco, you're talking about a team with incredible individual talent, really well organized, a great structure, yet fluidity in which they play, which I think really accesses the quality of their players,” Canadian coach Jesse Marsch said on Friday.
Here’s what you need to know about Saturday's contest between Canada and Morocco at Houston's NRG Stadium (1:00 p.m. ET/TSN).
