Toronto FC began life without Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi with a disappointing 3-1 loss away to New York City FC late last week.

TFC Republic spoke to fellow Toronto FC beat reporter James Grossi, who also operates the Unattached FC website, about the Reds' defeat at Yankee Stadium, who needs to step up now that the Italian DPs are gone, and much more.

Toronto FC continue life without its former Italian DPs this week when they host Eastern Conference rivals Atlanta United.

TFC 2 suffered their heaviest loss of the MLS NEXT Pro season in a 5-0 defeat away to Philadelphia Union II on Sunday.

Neither of them lived up to expectations, but Federico Bernardeschi will be somewhat fondly remembered by Toronto FC supporters.

If nothing else, the Italians' departures serve as a learning moment for Toronto FC, and there are plenty of lessons to be learned.
