VANCOUVER – Canada put its best foot forward in its opening match of the Concacaf Gold Cup without the benefit of even playing its best team.

A somewhat experimental Canadian side rolled to a comprehensive 6-0 win over Honduras on Tuesday night at BC Place courtesy of a brace from Tajon Buchanan, and additional goals from Niko Sigur, Nathan Saliba, Tani Oluwaseyi and Promise David. Toronto FC fullback Richie Laryea had an assist on night before an announced crowd of 24,286.

Canada tops Group B with three points, ahead of Curaçao and El Salvador (one point each) and Honduras (zero points). Curaçao and El Salvador played to a 0-0 draw in San Jose on Tuesday. The top two teams in each of the four round robin groups at the Gold Cup advance to the knockout round. The Canadians can clinch a berth in the quarter-finals with a win in their next game. Canada plays Curaçao (June 21) and El Salvador (June 24) at Houston's Shell Energy Stadium.
