Canada and Ivory Coast meet each other for the first time on Tuesday with Les Rouges looking to win the Canadian Shield tournament.

Canada vs. Ivory Coast: What you need to know

The Canadian men's team is on the verge of winning a trophy and building up some momentum ahead of this summer's Concacaf Gold Cup at the same time.

A 4-2 win over Ukraine on Saturday puts Canada in the driver's seat at the inaugural Canadian Shield tournament. A victory vs. Ivory Coast in the competition's finale would all but secure the title for the Canadian side.

Canada hasn't played an African nation since a 2-1 loss to Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Canada (ranked No. 30) and Ivory Coast (No. 41) have never previously met.

Promise David came out of the Ukraine match with a muscle strain after scoring in his international debut. Coach Jesse Marsch said Tuesday that David's MRI came back negative, but he wasn't sure if he would rest or play the hulking forward. If David does make the gameday roster, Marsch said he won't start.

Here’s what you need to know about Tuesday's game between Canada and Ivory Coast at BMO Field (8:30 p.m. ET/TSN & OneSoccer).
