Toronto FC have to make a very big decision about José Cifuentes this summer.

When TFC acquired the Ecuadorian midfielder from Scottish club Rangers last year, the deal included a purchase option when his loan expires on June 30, 2026.

Cifuentes has looked solid this season after a shaky start to his tenure with the Reds last year, including scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew on March 21.

Toronto FC beat reporter James Grossi, who also operates the Unattached FC website, spoke to TFC Republic about Cifuentes' time with the Reds thus far, GM Jason Hernandez not making any roster additions before last week's transfer window closed, and much more.
