TORONTO – Another year, another Canadian Championship bitter disappointment for Toronto FC.
TFC bowed out of the competition in the first round for a second consecutive year after suffering a 3-1 loss to Atlético Ottawa on Tuesday at BMO Field. Ballou Tabla netted a hat trick in a man-of-the-match display to pace Ottawa to amazing come-from-behind win for the CPL champions.
Deandre Kerr opened the scoring in this embarrassing defeat in Toronto's first ever meeting against Ottawa. TFC are now winless in six games (four draws) across all competitions and haven’t tasted victory since April 4. Toronto had never previously been eliminated by a CPL club before, while Ottawa had never beaten a MLS club before this game.
TFC coach Robin Fraser laid the brutal truth bare after this humbling loss.
