Canada now winless in 3 games after draw vs. Ecuador
The Canadian men’s team are without a win since September following Thursday’s goal-less stalemate at BMO Field.
- Canada 0, Ecuador 0
- Canadians have gone 319 consecutive minutes without a goal
- Les Rouges reduced to 10 men in 6th minute thanks to Ahmed’s red card
TORONTO – A meaningless international friendly? Not this game.
There wasn’t anything friendly about Thursday’s 0-0 draw between Canada and Ecuador played out before an announced sellout crowd of 28,740 fans on a chilly evening at BMO Field.
This was an ill-tempered contest that threatened to overheat on several occasions, mostly due to the South American’s playacting and shameless attempts to bait Canada after the whistle was blown. The Canadians were also forced to play with 10 men for the majority of the contest due to an early red card to Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Ali Ahmed.
Ecuador is ranked No. 23 in the world, five spots above Canada, and came as advertised – its defensive prowess preceded them after giving up only five goals in the South American qualifiers to punch their ticket for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. La Tricolor are now unbeaten in 14 matches (with five wins), with its previous loss coming last September vs. Brazil.
