TFC Talk: Big questions loom over Sean Johnson, Luka Gavran

One of the biggest decisions Toronto FC has to make this off-season pertains to Sean Johnson.
When TFC announced their end-of-season roster decisions last month, Johnson was among the eight players who didn't have their 2026 contract options picked up.
Johnson enjoyed his best season for TFC this year since joining the club in 2023 and was widely regarded as the team's MVP. But he was also among the highest paid goalkeepers in MLS ($1,063,125 US) and he turns 37 next May. Meanwhile, Luka Gavran ($128,475) is 25 years old and has been waiting in the wings after backing up Johnson for the past two-and-a-half seasons.
TFC Republic spoke to fellow Toronto FC beat reporter James Grossi, who also operates the Unattached FC website, to evaluate the MLS club's goalkeeping situation going into next season.
