Canada battles Colombia to credible draw in friendly

A 0-0 draw against the South Americans on Tuesday night in New Jersey was a fair result for the Canadians.

HARRISON, NEW JERSEY – After a momentary setback, Canada got back on course as it prepares to co-host next summer’s FIFA World Cup.

The Canadians rebounded from a laboured display in last week’s outing with a professional performance by battling Colombia to a 0-0 draw in Tuesday’s international friendly at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Canada showed why it has climbed to No. 26 in the FIFA world rankings (its highest ever position) by going toe-to-toe with the South American heavyweight, who is ranked No. 13.

Les Rouges don’t have to go through the Concacaf qualifying process and instead are lining up friendlies against some of the game’s top nations ahead of the World Cup. Tuesday’s tilt was a tough test against an established powerhouse, and the Canadians more than held their own (while also riding their luck late in the game) to hang on for the clean sheet draw.
