There's been few statement games from Toronto FC during the 2026 MLS season. Saturday's 2-0 road win over the New York Red Bulls was one of them.

A loss or draw wouldn't have eliminated TFC from playoff contention, but it certainly would have put a huge dent in their push for a post-season push. Instead, Toronto's fourth shutout of the season breathed some life into the Reds' drive to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in six years.

"This is huge. Obviously, every game is now life or death, and we are very happy today but tomorrow we have to keep working because we're still far away from the playoffs. It's going to take a lot in these last games to get in there and you know we have difficult games coming up," Dániel Sallói said.

"I'm saying that because every game is difficult at the end of the year and especially when it's a must-win, so we just got to keep working, keep fighting, and we've got to be above the line at the end of the regular season."

Here are my three major takeaways from Saturday's match.
