After missing the start of the 2026 MLS campaign through injury, Theo Corbeanu is making up for lost time by playing some of his best football since arriving at Toronto FC.

Corbeanu, a 24-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., scored six goals and tallied two assists in his first MLS season in 2025 while on loan from Spanish club Granada CF. That was enough for Toronto to exercise its purchase option, tying him to the club through 2028.

Corbeanu didn’t immediately get a chance to build upon his solid debut season for TFC as he underwent knee surgery in February and ended up being sidelined for the Reds’ first 13 league games of 2026. He made his return on May 23 when he was subbed on for the last 15 minutes of a road game vs. the Chicago Fire. But then came the extended break due to this summer's FIFA World Cup, which meant he had to wait even longer to get into the full swing of things.

Finally, on July 16, Corbeanu earned his first start of the year when he lasted 63 minutes vs. CF Montreal at Stade Saputo. His first goal came the following week in a 2-1 loss away to D.C. United.
