TFC's Laryea earns Canada call up; injured Osorio left off squad
Richie Laryea has been recalled by Jesse Marsch for the upcoming window that sees Canada play a trio of friendlies.
It'll be a homecoming of sorts for Toronto FC's Richie Laryea when the Canadian men's team plays its first game since this summer's FIFA World Cup later this month.
Coach Jesse Marsch announced his 26-man squad on Tuesday for the September/October international window and included in the roster is the veteran TFC fullback who has a goal and seven assists in 80 appearances for Canada, including starts in all five games at the World Cup.
Toronto centre back Richard Chukwu has also received his second call up by the Canadian senior team – his first came in November 2024. Chukwu has played for Canada at the under-17 and under-20 level and made his full Toronto FC debut earlier this summer after signing an MLS contract fro TFC 2.
Toronto captain Jonathan Osorio (1o goals, eight assists, 92 caps) didn't make the cut as he is sidelined with a knee injury that has kept him out of the Reds' last seven MLS matches. Also absent from this latest Canadian team are captain Alphonso Davies (who'll be on his honeymoon), goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau (personal reasons) and centre back Moïse Bombito (who is slated to have surgery on his left tibia.
