Canada scratches out victory over Wales in friendly
The Canadians earned their second shutout win in five days on European soil with a solid effort on Tuesday in Swansea.

- Canada 1 (Cornelius 41’), Wales 0
- Derek Cornelius scores his 1st goal in 37 appearances for Canada
- Les Rouges impressively win back-to-back games on European soil
After cruising to its first win over a European nation in 14 years, the Canadian men’s team was made to suffer and work for it before coming out on top on Tuesday.
Canada received a highlight reel goal from Derek Cornelius in a 1-0 victory over Wales in a high-profile international friendly on a wet net in Swansea as it continued to build momentum ahead of co-hosting next summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Les Rouges carried the bulk of the play against the Welsh and were more dangerous going forward through the first 45 minutes before looking leggy and just seeing things out in the second half en route to earning its second consecutive win on European soil.
The Canadians previously won two consecutive games in Europe against European opposition vs. Luxembourg (Nov. 16, 2025) and Austria (March 1, 2006), although that wasn’t a back-to-back accomplishment as a draw vs. the United States was sandwiched between those results. Canada has now recorded win in its last three games against teams from Europe.
