Josh Sargent looks to offer TFC more after ending goal drought
It hasn't been smooth sailing for Sargent in his first MLS season, but he hopes to have turned a finally turned a corner for Toronto FC.
It was a goal that was long overdue from Josh Sargent.
Toronto FC’s DP forward ended a three-month scoring drought when he bagged the opener in his side’s eventual upset 2-1 road win over Inter Miami last weekend.
Sargent was goalless in his five previous outings dating back to May 23 when he found the back of the net in a 3-1 road loss to the Chicago Fire. The subsequent MLS break due to the FIFA World Cup made Sargent’s goal drought seem longer than it actually was, but five consecutive matches without scoring is still a notable dry spell, especially for a player of Sargent’s pedigree.
It’s been approximately six months since Sargent, a 26-year-old from Missouri, signed with TFC following a protracted transfer saga involving his former club, English outfit Norwich City. It hasn’t been exactly smoothing sailing for the American forward during his first MSL season with Toronto’s struggles mirroring his own – Sargent's offensive production, four goals and two assists in 14 games, can be characterized as modest.
