Herdman surrounds himself with familiar faces at Toronto FC

If John Herdman is going to remake Toronto FC into a winner, he’ll do it with a little help from his friends.

TFC is coming off their worst ever season in 2023, setting new franchise records for the fewest wins (four) and points (22) in a single MLS season as they missed the playoffs for a third consecutive year and finished bottom of the league table.

The Reds were tied for the fewest goals scored (26) in MLS last year and boasted the second-worst defensive record (59 goals against). They were also the only team in the league to go the entire season without a single road win.

Herdman was hired in late August as Toronto’s season was spiraling wildly out of control, but he didn’t take over the reins until the last game of the campaign – interim coach Terry Dunfield kept the manager’s seat warm until Herdman was ready to assume the job on a full-time basis.
