July 16, 2026: TFC 2's Richard Chukwu graduates to 1st team
Toronto FC signed TFC 2 defender Richard Chukwu to a Major League Soccer contract as a "homegrown player" through the 2029-30 season with a club option for 2030-31. Chukwu is the 38th TFC youth academy product to sign with the first team.
Quick analysis: Still only 18 years old, Richard Chukwu is considered one of Toronto FC's most promising youth academy products.
GM Jason Hernandez is so high on Chukwu that he mentioned the defender by name during a special town hall with Toronto FC supporters prior to the 2025 MLS season when he was asked about young players coming through the youth system who had the greatest potential to jump to the first team.
