Toronto FC vs. CF Montreal: 3 takeaways

Thursday's stalemate at Stade Saputo showed that TFC have a lot to work on following a two-month hiatus from MLS.

MONTREAL – An emphatic 6-1 win over CF Montreal at Stade Saputo last May marked Toronto FC's biggest MLS victory in club history.

TFC returned to Montreal for the first time on Thursday since that historic result, looking to put one over their bitter rivals in a similar fashion. But things didn’t play out that way as Toronto and Montreal battled to a dire 0-0 draw.

Toronto (3-6-6) picked up a valuable point and moved up one spot to 12th in the Eastern Conference in snapping a three-match losing streak in MLS. At the same time, the Reds are now winless in nine games in league play – 10 in all competitions – and haven’t won since April 4.

"Toward the end as we pushed, we got a few chances; obviously dealt with some counter attacks. Overall, it just was not a really precisely executed game," coach Robin Fraser told reporters in the post-game presser.

Here are my three major takeaways from Thursday's match.
