Toronto FC GM sheds some light on Nelson Palacio injury mystery
TFC will consult with specialists to try to get to the bottom of a muscle issue that has sidelined Palacio since his arrival in July.
GM Jason Hernandez remains convinced that Nelson Palacio will eventually become an impact player for Toronto FC.
But for now, Palacio, 25, remains in a holding pattern with Toronto more than two months after being acquired in a cash-for-player trade ($1.1 million US guaranteed, $550,000 conditional) with Real Salt Lake in July.
What started out as a “reconditioning” stint for Palacio has blown up into a full-fledged injury crisis that has prevented him from making his TFC debut and left management asking questions over how they handled (or possibly mishandled) things with the Colombian midfielder.
Speaking to reporters this week, Hernandez explained that Palacio passed his medical upon arrival in Toronto, even though he was carrying minor niggles from a year-long loan with Swiss club FC Zürich with whom he made 32 appearances across all competitions. But then Palacio suffered a setback while being integrated into training at TFC; specifically, muscle soreness in his lower body.
