July 3, 2026: Wingo, Mailula bought out of their contracts
Toronto FC has exercised a contract buyout of American defender Henry Wingo. The club also bought out the contract of South African forward Cassius Mailula. MLS clubs are allowed to buy out two players per season.
Quick analysis: Toronto FC has thrown in the towel in buying out the contract of Henry Wingo, a player who was dogged by injuries ever since he returned to MLS two years ago.
Wingo, 30, joined TFC as a free agent in the summer of 2024 after playing with Budapest-based club Ferencvárosi. He joined the Hungarian outfit in 2021 and helped them with four league titles and a domestic cup, while also featuring in the UEFA Europa League.
