"I knew it was going to be physical and fast paced. I think that's why, for my game, it suited me to come here," Monlouis said.

After toiling in the English club game for several years, defender Zane Monlouis appears poised to finally kickstart his career with Toronto FC in MLS.

Monlouis, 21, represented Arsenal across all youth levels, earning over 100 appearances for its U-18, U-21 and U-23 teams after signing his first professional contract in October 2020. But he never played a single game for the Gunners at senior level.

The English centre back also had a brief loan spell with League One side Reading last season, playing in one game for their senior side and making an appearance for their under-21 side. Despite his lack of first-team experience, TFC saw something in Monlouis, officially signing him to a contract through 2026 (with options for 2027 and 2028) following a transfer move from Arsenal in February.
